Is it a Hoax?

               Reference Sites

This is a reference page you can save to check on virus and other information sent to you.  If you get a message like:  "A new virus that cannot be detected by McAfee or Norton..." or " They are going to pass a law taxing e-mail..."  or stories of people in need --- well it just may be a Hoax.  These sites below keep track of such things and can be searched for verification.

Be careful before you forward or act upon email information, as it could be misinformation.   The first three spots I suggest to check out these things are:

1.  General Fact Checker:  www.truthorfiction.com

2.  If you have Norton Antivirus software by Symantec check here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/hoax.html

3.  If you have McAfee software:  http://vil.mcafee.com/hoax.asp?

4.  Snopes is one of the most often cited authorities on the truth of an internet claim:  www.snopes.com
